FAQ

The most weather-resistant patio furniture is typically made from materials that can withstand sun, rain, and temperature changes. In the Ovios BBR Broad Armrests Series, we use several weather-resistant materials:

  • PE Wicker: Our furniture frames are made of handwoven polyethylene (PE) wicker. This synthetic material is highly durable and resistant to UV rays, rain, and temperature fluctuations. Unlike natural wicker, PE wicker won't crack, peel, or fade in the sun.
  • Powder-Coated Steel: The inner frames of our furniture are made of powder-coated steel. This coating prevents rust and corrosion, even in humid or rainy conditions.
  • Weather-Resistant Fabric: Our cushion covers are made from a high-quality, UV-resistant fabric. This material not only withstands sun exposure without fading but also dries quickly after rain.
  • Water-Resistant Cushions: The cushion fillings are wrapped in water-resistant material, preventing water absorption and mold growth.
  • Porcelain Tabletops: For sets with fire pit tables, we use porcelain tabletops. Porcelain is extremely durable and resistant to weather, stains, and scratches.

These materials work together to create patio furniture that can be left outdoors year-round in most climates, requiring minimal maintenance to keep it looking great.

Give your outdoor furniture a refresh with a clean. The pressure washer on low can work on metals and plastics, while soapy water will be great for woods. For metal, after cleaning, remove the rust with sandpaper and repaint with exterior-grade paint. Once the wood preservative has been put on, you can refinish with either stain or paint. And finally, plastic furniture items can be treated with UV-protectant sprays to help preserve color and material integrity. Update your look by replacing old cushions with new ones in weather-resistant fabric, or if you're handy, sew new covers. Add some colorful outdoor pillows or a patterned rug to bring in fresh elements. Finally, try rearranging your furniture to create a new layout-this simple change can make a big difference. These steps will go a long way in changing your outdoor space without necessarily having to buy new furniture altogether.

Outdoor furniture covers can blow off for a few reasons. First, the cover is too big for your furniture. A loose-fitting cover catches wind easily, like a sail. Second, your cover may not have proper fasteners. Without straps or ties, even a well-fitted cover can be lifted by strong winds.

The solution to the problem is that you have to measure your furniture carefully and get a snug-fitting cover. Elastic-edged covers tend to stay on the furniture. Get covers with built-in straps or ties, these fasten underneath to hold the cover in place.

To further secure it against very high winds, you can anchor the cover with additional bungee cords or heavy-duty clips. Some people place light weights, like clean bricks wrapped in cloth, on top of covered furniture.

Being tight is good, but the cover should not be too small in order to tuck with difficulty and on the verge of tearing. A well-sized cover, coupled with proper fastening, would basically keep the furniture cover in place even on breezy days.

Sure, you can leave cushions outdoors when using outdoor furniture, but again with some measured caution. The general rule is that most outdoor cushions, much like those in the Ovios BBR Broad Armrests Series, are fabricated for water resistance and quick drying. However, they are not wholly waterproof.

Cushions can be left outside for everyday use; they will generally be able to handle minor rain or morning dew. However, when heavier rain sets in, it is a good idea to take them inside or to cover them up. This will help prevent water from seeping into the filling of the cushion and creating mold and mildew.

If it is winter or if you're not going to use the furniture in a long time, you can store the cushions indoors. This will protect the cushions from the weather and prolong their life. An available garage, a shed, or even a storage box big enough serves well.

If you don't have storage indoors for the furniture, consider waterproof furniture covers. These protect both the furniture and the cushions from rain and sun damage.

Even cushions that are weather-resistant will last longer with a little TLC. Protect them from the worst of the weather, and your outdoor seating areas will be comfortable and beautiful for years to come.

Mice are one of the biggest pains when it comes to outdoor cushions. Here is how to protect your cushions from them:

Keep your outdoor area tidy: Mice are attracted to the leavings of food, so pick up after meals and store pet food indoors. This makes your patio less appealing to rodents.

Place some organic repellants around your furniture. Mice detest these types of smells, like peppermint, lavender, and cedar. These essential oils can be sprinkled onto cotton balls and then placed near furniture. Blocks of cedar and sachets can be used, too.

Store cushions indoors while you will not use your outdoor space for quite a while. A garage or storage shed works great. If you are going to have to store them outside, use a tightly sealed plastic container to block entry by mice.

It is also important that regular cleaning and inspection of your cushions are performed, in order for you to know whether it needs more frequent vacuuming or if there is any area showing signs of mouse activities. Wherever damage is observed, repairs should be done as soon as possible.
